OOC: History Post
Character Name and Series/Original Character: The Count of Monte Cristo/Edmond Dantes from Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
Name in Role Play: The Count of Monte Cristo
Race/Ethnicity: Demon/French
Age: 1000, appears late 20s
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual

Appearance: The Count appears in every way the perfect gentleman: his pale skin, tailored suits, and cravat garnering immediate attention to his social status. He is always dressed as if he is headed to a fancy party somewhere and keeps himself looking immaculate. When traveling he is often seen wearing a long traveling cloak, black on one side and intricately designed on the other with a pattern of red and gold and a tall top hat upon his head. He is also often seen carrying a long slender cane wherever he goes. His long black hair is unbound and he has a small triangular goatee upon his chin.

Personality: The Count, at first glance, seems very charming, sociable, and energetic if not slightly eccentric in his ways. He is quick with a smile and a complement and is impeccable when it comes to manners appropriate to a gentleman of his status. This does not mean that he believes himself to be above another, however, as he can often be seen in the streets, chatting with many of the more common folk. Whether the person he is speaking with is a washer woman or a member of royalty, he treats each as if they had the same amount of dignity and status as he himself.

This is, however unfortunate, primarily an act. Having accepted his condition long ago, the Count believes that people are merely pawns in a game. He is always scrutinizing the person he is talking too, sizing them up to see if they can be of any use to him. The reason he has lived as long as he has is because he knows how to find the people who might desire the power that his condition possesses and his wit and charm almost always win over those he meets on a daily basis and as such, he has a nearly limitless supply of possibilities.

Abilities/Weaponry: Aside from the traditional demon powers and abilities, the Count is also an accomplished fencer, having mastered each style as one who has practiced them for hundreds of years. He also carries a small sword inside his omnipresent cane.

Weaknesses: The Count has very few, if any, true weaknesses besides the standard fare for those of his kind, save one. He will not prey upon those of his former loves family line and those associated with them in some way by blood.

History: The Count was born in 3024 AD as Edmond Dantes in the port town of Marseilles in the southern part of France. Throughout the early part of his life he was happy and carefree, having become engaged to the love of his life and made the first mate of a fine merchant vessel. In 3042 the captain fell ill and died. As his last request, he asked Edmond to deliver a letter to a friend in Paris for him. Upon receiving the letter and returning home to port, his rival for his fiancee and a man who was jealous of Edmond's skill implicated him as the main suspect in the assassination of the prince and that he held a letter with the details of the murder. The judge, who's father was the addressee of the letter, sent Edmond to rot in the Chateu d'If for fourteen years. At the end of this time frame, Edmond, slowly going mad with his plans for revenge, calls out to the darkness in desperation, pleading that something give him the power that he needed to exact his revenge upon those who had wronged him.

It was then that it appeared, the demon known as Gankutsuou. It questioned Edmond if that was what he truly desired and if that were so would he be willing to give up everything to get it. Edmond, desperate, replied that he would and the contract was signed despite the demon's warning of the soul a year clause. Filled with resolve and newfound power, Edmond made his escape and within a few years his plans for revenge upon those who had wronged him came into being. He could not bring himself, however, to lay a hand on his former fiancee and her son, a precedent he keeps to this day.

It was then that he went on a journey around the globe, hopping from city to city, living in a different place each year and meeting his yearly requirement each time. He pursued the limelight in each of the cities he came into and made sure to make the correct contacts, those both shady and of a more traditional nature. Whenever he left a city he made sure that he stayed away long enough that he would not be immediately remembered upon his return, ensuring that those who might know him be either old or dead before even considering a return to the city. The Count has seen the world hundreds of times over and it is with this experience that he returns to Italy, seeking his next target or contact.

Organization/Pack/Clan/Guild?: None, the Count is his own.
